About David Mullican

David Mullican is a licensed architect based in Galveston, Texas, with a career spanning over three decades in designing custom homes, historic restorations, and unique commercial spaces. His work reflects a deep appreciation for architecture that blends function, context, and enduring design.

David earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Kentucky in 1980. During his studies, he received a prestigious scholarship to attend the Preservation Institute of Nantucket through the University of Florida, and later toured Europe to study architectural styles firsthand in Italy, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Ireland, Spain, and Austria. His passion for architecture has also taken him to Mexico, Canada, China, Japan, and parts of the former USSR, enriching his global perspective on design.

In 1989-1990, David returned to academia to complete his Master’s Degree in Architecture at the University of Houston, focusing on experimental architecture in challenging environments. He also shared his expertise as a lecturer in Architectural Drafting at Wharton College in Wharton, Texas.

Since opening his private practice in 1985, David has designed a wide range of projects, including restaurants, retail spaces, and custom homes, with a particular focus on beachside residences. He has also undertaken historic restorations and remodels of both residential and commercial buildings, bringing careful attention to preservation and detail.

David’s expertise has been recognized beyond his practice. He served as an advisor to FEMA on beachfront construction, contributing to the Coastal Construction Manual, and continues to advise the Galveston Historic Foundation on architectural and downtown revitalization projects.

His work and projects are featured extensively on this site, showcasing a commitment to thoughtful, enduring design that responds to both environment and client vision.
